Sept. 10, 2004
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Brittany Cahoon hit .556 with a career-high 17 kills to help lead the Oregon State volleyball team (2-2) to a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts (2-3) in the first match of the Salbasgeon Suites Inviational at Gill Coliseum on Friday. Game scores were 27-30, 31-29, 30-19 and 30-23.
'This was a good win for us. Everybody filled their roles and did whatever they could to help the team,' coach Nancy Somera said. 'We held steady and took care of business.'
Allison Lawrence had 12 kills, and three other Beavers had eight apiece, including Taylor Studzinski, who came off the bench to hit .353 with a career-high eight kills in two games.
But it was OSU's defense that had Somera especially pleased.'We worked really hard in the practice gym this week to improve our blocking and our defense,' Somera said. 'We averaged 18.5 digs per game and had 17 total blocks, so it was really nice to see those efforts carry over to the match.'
Five Beavers finished with 10 or more digs, highlighted by Nina Baltimore's career-high 19 and Lawrence's 15. Desma Stovall, who also had 48 assists, had a career-high 13 digs. Karah Rhoades had 12 digs, and Katelyn Healy added 10.
