Kartunen Named Pacific-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Sept. 14, 2004

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen was named as the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week following a pair of shutout performances over the weekend. The Cardinal defeated San Jose State and San Diego to claim a share of the Cal-Adidas Legacy Classic title, and Kartunen earned tournament Co-MVP honors for his performance.

Kartunen made a pair of saves and cleared a ball off the goal line as Stanford registered a 1-0 victory over the Spartans on Friday. He followed that up with three saves in Sunday's game against San Diego, en route to posting his fourth straight shutout to begin the 2004 campaign. For the weekend, the native of San Juan Capistrano made five saves and logged 180 minutes in net. In four starts this season, Kartunen has made 16 saves and has not surrendered a goal, posting a 3-0-1 record.

This is the first weekly honor for Kartunen, and the sixth all-time player of the week honor for the Cardinal.
