Sept. 17, 2004
Corvallis, Ore. - Freshman forward Jodie Taylor scored her eighth goal of the season, but Oregon State women's soccer team lost to No. 6 Portland 3-1 Friday evening at Lorenz Field.
The loss brought OSU's record to 5-2-0 on the year, while UP improved to 6-1-0.
'We played well today,' OSU head coach Steve Fennah said. 'We had our fair share of possessions and chances to score during the game today.'
Christine Sinclair scored two goals for the Pilots during the first half. Sinclair scored in the twenty-sixth minute of the game and later scored again with five minutes left off an assist from Elsa Hume, giving them a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Portland finished its scoring late in the second half when Hume broke away and scored in the box off an assist from Sinclair.
Taylor came back for the Beavers in the eightieth minute of the game, scoring her eighth goal in the last seven games off a long left pass from Tessa Baker.
Despite OSU out-shooting UP 10-3 during the second half, the Beavers were unable to bring home the win.
'What we take home from today's game is that we showed we have the ability to play against some very good teams,' Fennah said. 'And we have some lessons to learn.'
OSU will be on the road next week taking on University of San Francisco Friday at 5:00 p.m., and Loyola Marymount Sunday at 2 p.m.
