Women's Cross Country Places Fifth At SDSU Invitational

San Diego, Calif. - The USC women's cross country team scored 176 points to place fifth at the Aztec Cross Country Invitational held at Balboa Park on Saturday.

Duke finished first with 18 points, followed by Arizona (97), Northern Arizona (109), Southern Utah (149) and then USC.

Sophomore Kristen Berglas led the Women of Troy, running the 5K in 19:15 to place 25th. Freshman Kristin Kovacich did well, too, running in 19:31 to place 29th.

Shannon Rowbury of Duke was the individual winner at 17:03.

Also for USC, Kate Pinta was 38th (19:50), Harlye Maya was 49th (20:07), Laura Strachan was 59th (20:20), Victoria Carter was 60th (20:20) and Christina Eads was 79th (20:47).

The Women of Troy are next in action at the UC Riverside Invitational on Oct. 2.
