UW Golfers Tied with Duke for Lead at Fall Preview

Bend, Or - The seventh-ranked Washington women's golf team is tied for first place with third-ranked Duke entering Wednesday's final round of play at the Fall Preview taking place at the Meadows Golf Club in Bend, Ore. The Huskies and Blue Devils stand atop the leaderboard at 9-over 577.

Washington entered Tuesday's second round two strokes behind Duke. Thanks to a fast start, the Huskies grabbed the tournament lead early in their round and at one point enjoyed an eight-stroke lead.

Husky freshman Kim Shin and junior Sung Ea Lee led Washington's charge to the top of the standings by both shooting 2-under 69. Shin, playing her second round as a collegiate, had birdies on one, five and 11 before carding a bogie on the 12th hole. She is tied for seventh overall at even par 142 after posting a 2-over 73 Monday. Lee is 12th overall, one stroke behind Shin.

Husky All-American Paige Mackenzie struggled during her second round, posting a nine-over 80, to fall back to 30th at 6-over 148. Ashley Bickerton shot 75 and is tied with teammate Amber Prange for 39th overall at 149. Prange had a 77 during the second round.

Arizona State trails Washington and Duke by two strokes while Oklahoma State and Georgia are tied for fourth at 580. Defending NCAA Champion UCLA is sixth at 585.

Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin and Arizona State's Louise Stahle are tied for first in medalist play at 8-under 134. Duke's Brittany Lang is third at 138.
