Taylor Nets Ninth Goal In 2-1 Loss At San Francisco
Sept. 24, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - - Freshman Jodie Taylor's ninth goal of the year in the 82nd minute brought the Beavers within 2-1, but the Oregon State women's soccer team couldn't net the equalizer and fell to 5-3-0 with the loss to San Francisco Friday night.
After a scoreless first half, the Beavers fell behind 1-0 off a converted penalty kick by Annika Schmidt in the 68th minute.
USF (5-3-0) made it 2-0 12 minutes later when Chelsea Hunt fired a long shot past OSU keeper Amy Johnson.
Taylor, who has scored a goal in all but one of OSU's eight matches, took a through-ball from Stacey Mescher and chipped a shot over USF keeper Stephanie Beall at 81:27. Mescher set a new career high with her fourth assist of the season.
'Give San Francisco credit - they dictated the tempo of the game more than we would have liked,' OSU coach Steve Fennah said. 'It was as simple as that. They did the right things and worked hard for each other. We got out-worked tonight.'
The Beavers play at Loyola Marymount on Sunday.
