WESTWOOD - The 10th-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team (7-3, 0-1 Pac-10) fell in a four-game match on Friday night at Pauley Pavilion, dropping their home opener to Washington (9-0, 1-0) with game scores of 30-18, 24-30, 30-18, 30-22. In the second game of the match, UCLA senior outside hitter Brynn Murphy became the 20th player in program history to record her 1,000th career kill.

Team attack percentage told the story of the match, as the Huskies roared out of the gate with a .412 team attack percentage to UCLA's .128 in the opening game of the match. Washington's greatest lead of the game was at 21-9, and the Huskies never looked back from there. Darla Myhre started hot for the UW with an error-free first game as she downed five kills on eight swings for a .625 attack percentage and three block assists. UCLA's Colby Lyman was the only Bruin with comparable offensive numbers, leading the team with five kills and one error on eight attacks for a .500 attack percentage. UCLA was out-blocked in the opening game by a 6.5-0 margin.

The Bruins would turn the momentum around in the second game, as Brynn Murphy made quick work of the 1,000 kill plateau. Needing two kills to reach the milestone, Murphy had a kill on the opening rally of the match and earned her 1,000th career kill to tie the score at 10-10. In the game, Murphy was perfect, downing six kills on six attacks for a 1.000 attack percentage and two block assists for a team-high seven points. The Bruins out-blocked UW by a 5-3 margin and had a .267 team attack percentage to Washington's .191 for the 30-24 win that sent the teams to the locker room tied at one game apiece.

After the break, the Bruins came out of the locker room taking a 4-1 lead, but the Huskies would regain the advantage at 7-6 and never looked back. Sanja Tomasevic had a game-high six kills for UW as the Huskies out-blocked UCLA 5-2.5 and had a .368 team attack percentage to UCLA's .044.

It was a similar story in the deciding game of the match with Tomasevic downing nine of her match-high 27 kills while hitting .571 in the final game of the match. UCLA did out-block UW 5-3.5, but Washington hit .265 to UCLA's .098 in the 30-22 win.

For the Bruins, Brittany Ringel double-doubled with 17 kills and a team-high 19 points to go along with a season-high 12 digs. Murphy was the only other Bruin in double figures with 11 kills. Senior libero Chrissie Zartman led all players with 24 digs.

UCLA returns to action on Saturday night with a 7 pm match at Pauley Pavilion against Washington State, while the Huskies travel to USC's Lyon Center for a 7 pm match-up against the second-ranked Women of Troy, the two-time defending NCAA Champions.
