Andrews Joins Husky Golf Team

Sept. 24, 2004

Seattle - Travis Andrews, a junior at the University, is the newest member of the Husky golf team. Andrews won a qualifying tournament in mid-September to earn the one walk-on position for this year's team. Andrews will compete this weekend as an individual at the Idaho Vandal Classic.

'Travis is tournament tested and we're pleased to welcome him as the newest member of our team,' said head coach Matt Thurmond. 'Travis has worked very hard to get to this point and I think he'll be able to contribute on our team this season.'

Andrews earned three letters on the Juanita High School golf team from 1998-2000. He earned All-KingCo honors for coach Pat Leonard and competed in the 2000 4A state championship. Last summer Andrews tied for fifth at the Seattle Amateur Championship.

Prior to enrolling at Washington, Andrews played at Columbia Basin College (Pasco) from 2001-2002. He took medalist honors three times for coach John Howard's team. He transferred to Washington in fall of 2002.
