Washington Volleyball Defeats No. 2 USC In Five Games

LOS ANGELES-- The third-ranked Washington volleyball team (10-0, 2-0 Pac-10) defeated second-ranked USC (6-2, 1-1 Pac-10) in five games (22-30, 30-25, 20-30, 30-26, 18-16) this evening at the Lyon Center. The Huskies fell behind two games to one before taking games four and five to seal the Husky victory. With the win, Washington snaps a 12-match losing streak to the Women of Troy and maintains its first place standing in the Pac-10.

The teams were dead even in kills with 80 apiece, while USC held the advantage in hitting percentage (.196-.284) and blocks (21-7).

The Huskies used a balanced attack en route to the victory as four player recorded kills in the double-digits. Christal Morrison and Sanja Tomasevic each tallied double-doubles with 18 kills and 16 digs for Morrison and 18 kills and 14 digs for Tomasevic. Brie Hagerty also notched 18 kills for UW and Darla Myhre added 11 kills. Setter Courtney Thompson dished 62 assists.

Candace Lee led Washington's defensive effort with 22 digs, while Danka Danicic and Thompson chipped in 14 digs each. Myhre led the team with seven blocks, while Morrison added five.

The Huskies return to action next week when they make their home debut against Oregon on Oct. 1. UW then takes on Oregon State on Oct. 2. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
