Bruins Run at Notre Dame Invitational on Friday

Eric Peterson's UCLA men and women's and cross country teams on Friday (Oct. 1) will compete at the Notre Dame Invitational. The women (5K, 1:15 p.m.PT) and men's (8K, 2 p.m.PT) races will take place on the Burke Memorial Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
The ND Invitational men's field will feature 26 teams, including five nationally-rated squads - No. 2 Stanford, No. 9 BYU, No. 11 Air Force, No. 12 Indiana and No. 24 Butler.Competing this weekend for the Bruins at Notre Dame will be - seniors, Jon Rankin, Erik Emilsson, and Ben Aragon; juniors, Nick De Felice and Martell Munguia; sophomores, Austin Ramos and Micky Cobrin, and freshmen, Mike Haddan and Kyle Shackleton.
UCLA had a successful start to the 2004 season, with third-place finishes at both the USF and Stanford Invitational. Rankin has been the Bruins' top finisher in each of the first two races, most recently with a third-place finish at the Stanford Invitational (12:01, 4k race). Emilsson was the No. 2 runner for the Bruins at the Stanford Invite, finishing 13th in a time of 12:12. In all, six Bruins finished in the Top 20 at the Stanford Invite - Rankin, Emilsson, Micky Cobrin (14th, 12:21), Ben Aragon (15th, 12:21), Austin Ramos (16th, 12:22), and Mike Haddan (17th, 12:22).
'The men's team ran well at the Stanford Invite, with Jon Rankin setting the pace,' said Peterson, in his fifth season coaching the UCLA men. 'We have a senior experienced squad and running against some of the nation's top teams at Notre Dame will be a good challenge for our team.'
The Bruins will run at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational in La Jolla on Oct. 9.
