Oct. 1, 2004
Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State beat Gonzaga 1-0 in non-league women's soccer Friday afternoon at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium. The win brings OSU to 6-5-0 on the year while GU falls to 7-4-0.
'Everyone had a lot of energy today,' OSU head coach Steve Fennah said. 'We had plenty of opportunities to score and we took advantage of them'.
The Beavers saw a scoreless first half despite out shooting GU 9-2.
After again outshooting the Bulldogs 17-1 during the second half, forward Jodie Taylor scored in the 82nd minute of the game off an assist from Stacey Mescher. Mescher, square with the goalie, passed right to Taylor 10 yards out, Taylor dribbled into the goal and chipped in the shot past GU's goalie.
Taylor has now scored 10 goals in 11 conference games, raising her to 21 points for the year (10 goals, 1 assist), and putting her on course to break Val Williams' single-season school points record of 47.
'This is a great win going into our season,' Fennah said. 'We put many different players in today, and that really helped up keep pressure on Gonzaga'.
The Beavers start their Pac-10 season on the road next week, taking UCLA on Friday at 7 p.m. and USC on Sunday at 1 p.m.
