Young Talents Lead Cougars at Montana Invite

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Washington State women's cross country team finished fourth at the Runner's Edge Montana Invitational held Saturday at the University of Montana golf course.
Freshman Collier Lawrence led the Cougar women finishing seventh in a time of 22:50. Also scoring for WSU were seniors Molly Bull (14th) and Julia Corbett (30th), along with freshmen Eileen Morley (33rd) and Michelle DeCourcey (37th). Competing unattached, sophomore Kayle Peterson ran to a second place finish and freshman Meghan Leonard placed 17th.
Weber State took the women's race placing five runners in the top 10. Ashley Hadway of Montana State was the top finisher with a time of 22.12.
The Washington State men were led by sophomore Andrew Jones placing ninth in a time of 25.22. Redshirt Freshman Geoff Casazza and redshirt junior Jonathan Manthey also scored for the Cougars finishing 23rd and 39th respectively. Running unattached, junior Leif Kohler finished 17th and senior Justin Ireland finished 20th. WSU did not send a full team on the men's side and was not counted in the team standings.
Montana State won the men's competition with Jonathan Gibson (24:37) leading the team with a first place finish.
After a week off, the Cougars will send separate squads to the Pre-Nationals meet in Terra Haute, Ind., and the EWU Invitational in Cheney, Wash., Saturday, Oct. 16.
