Volleyball Has Winning Streak Snapped With 3-0 Loss To No. 2 Washington
Oct. 3, 2004
SEATTLE, Wash. - Oregon State's volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped on Saturday night when the No. 2 ranked Washington Huskies recorded a 30-19, 30-24, 30-22 victory against the Beavers in front of 1,744 fans at Bank of America Arena.
OSU dropped to 8-4 on the season and 2-1 in Pacific-10 Conference action, while UW remains undefeated with a 12-0 overall record and 4-0 conference mark.
'We played better tonight, but we were up against a much better opponent,' said OSU head coach Nancy Somera. 'They really dominated the match on both ends of the ball.'
The Beavers struggled offensively throughout the match, hitting just .074 in the opening game and .044 in the third game. Oregon State finished game-two with a .237 hitting percentage, but the Huskies hit a match-high .405.
'I thought we passed their serve well,' said Somera. They're a very tough serving team, and we passed well but just couldn't get enough attackers going and couldn't put enough balls away against their defense.'
Beaver senior Allison Lawrence finished with her third consecutive double-double, and 10th on the season, when she tallied a team-high 10 kills to go along with 12 digs. Sophomore Abby Windell added nine kills and a .381 attack percentage.
Three Husky players reached double figures in kills, led by Christal Morrison's 16.
Oregon State returns home to face No. 17 University of Arizona on Friday in Gill Coliseum. First-serve is set for 7 p.m.
