Brett Wiesner Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

Oct. 5, 2004

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington senior forward Brett Wiesner has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wiesner, from Brookfield, Wis., led the Huskies to wins over UC Riverside and No. 12/NR UCLA, scoring goals in both matches including the gamewinner over the Bruins. Wiesner scored the second of back-to-back goals in a 17-second timespan in the 87th minute at UC Riverside. On the restart after Mike Chabala's goal on a penalty kick, the Huskies quickly gained possession and Wiesner beat the Highlander defense to score his first goal of the season and seal the win for Washington. He had a team-high six shots versus UC Riverside.

Wiesner's goal against UCLA in the 13th minute stood for the remainder of the game as the Huskies held on to upset the Bruins, 1-0. It was the first victory over UCLA for Washington since 2002, when UW pulled a 2-1 double overtime upset over then-No. 2 UCLA in Westwood.

The Huskies return home this week to host California and Stanford.

This is the first weekly honor for Wiesner, and the 11th all-time player of the week honor for the Huskies.
