Beavers Finish 13th In Sammamish

Oct. 6, 2004

Oregon State's women's golf team finished 13th overall Wednesday at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the par-72 Sahalee Golf and Country Club. The Beavers posted a three-round total of 985.

'We have some things to work on before we compete next,' said OSU head coach Risë Lakowske.

'We'll need to get our confidence back and work on our short game and ball management, but we'll focus this week and get there.'

Sophomore Jill Ferrante led the Beavers and finished tied for 51st with a 244.

Ninth-ranked (Golfweek) Oklahoma State led wire-to-wire and took home the team title with a 35-over 899, 19 strokes ahead of second-place Washington (ranked 2nd, host) and Oregon.

The Cowboys' Karin Sjodin earned individual medalist honors with a nine-stroke victory over teammate Annie Thurman. Sjodin, after posting the only rounds under par on Monday and Wednesday, never relinquished her lead on her way to a 3-under 213. This is Sjodin's second title of the season after winning the Fall Preview title two weeks ago.

Freshmen Jessi Gebhardt and Julie Uhrik finished tied for 58th with totals of 248.

Freshman Lindsay Eide, who led the team after round one, finished tied for 63rd.

Senior Kelly Kerkvliet placed 70th.

'It's not the end of the world,' said Lakowske. 'We're looking forward to next week.'

OSU plays next in the Stanford Pepsi Invitational, Oct. 15-17 in Palo Alto, Calif.
