Doubles Duo Defeated In All-American Qualifying

Oct. 6, 2004

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Washington's women's tennis doubles duo of Dea Sumantri and Dinka Hadzic was eliminated from qualifying play today at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. All of the Huskies doubles teams are now out of the season opening national tournament.

Sumantri's main draw singles run is now the last UW representation at the All-American Championships. The senior, ranked 11th in singles, has a difficult first round match tomorrow against 20th-ranked Petra Dizdar of Texas.

Hadzic and Sumantri were playing in only their second match as a team and needed two wins today to qualify for the main draw. But the 36th-ranked Florida tandem of Boglarka Berecz and Nina Suvak captured the second round match, 9-7.

The Riviera/ITA All-American Championships are the first of three individual national championships in college tennis, with the National Indoors in November and the NCAA Championships in May. Main draw singles and doubles play begins tomorrow and concludes on Oct. 10.
