Slovic And Palmanshofer Bested At All-American Championships
Oct. 7, 2004
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Washington men's tennis players Alex Slovic and Christoph Palmanshofer both suffered three-set losses in today's first round of the All-American Championships main singles draw. Each player will still compete in the consolation bracket which begins tomorrow.
Slovic, UW's 14th-ranked sophomore, lost a heartbreaker to Oscor Posada of East Tennesee State. The two split the first two sets and pushed the third set to a tiebreak, where Posada came out on top, 7-5, for a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5) win.
Palmanshofer had lost in yesterday's final round of qualifying for the main draw, but was awarded a main draw spot after certain players withdrew from the tournament. The Husky senior nearly made the most of his second chance, taking the first set against Florida's Chris Brandi, before the Gator turned things around for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
The Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships are the first of three national collegiate championships for the 2004-05 season.
