Slovic Earns First Win At All-Americans

Oct. 8, 2004

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Husky men's tennis player Alex Slovic won his first round consolation match at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships today for his first win of the season. Slovic is the final Husky still competing in the tournament after senior Christoph Palmanshofer fell short in his consolation round match.

Slovic, a sophomore ranked 14th, dropped into the consolation bracket after losing a third-set tiebreak for the match in his main draw first round yesterday. But Slovic came back strong today, defeating Penn State's 64th-ranked Malcolm Scatliffe, 6-2, 6-2. Next up for Slovic is 26th-ranked Jeff Kader of William & Mary.

Palmanshofer saw his tournament run come to an end with an overall record of 2-3. The 88th-ranked senior lost to No. 75 Rylan Rizza of Virginia, 6-3, 7-5.

Slovic will play his quarterfinal match Saturday morning. Should he win the semifinal will take place in the afternoon.
