USC Opens Pac-10 Season With 2-0 Win Over Oregon

LOS ANGELES -- Junior forward Tina Sutorius (Pleasanton/Amador Valley HS) registered a goal and assist Friday as the USC Trojans opened Pac-10 Conference play with a 2-0 win over the Oregon Ducks at McAlister Field. The Women of Troy have won four straight games and lost only once in their last eight games (6-1-1).
USC improves to 7-3-1 overall and 1-0 in Pac-10 play while Oregon is now 3-7-1 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Sutorius scored her career-high fourth goal of the season with a header in the 46th minute off a corner kick from Jocelyn Leche. Sophomore Jocelyn Hein scored her second goal of the season in the 57th minute for the Women of Troy. Lauren Shepherdson used a free kick that Sutorius deflected to Hein on the right side, who buried it into the right side of the net.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Veronica Simonton (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) needed three saves to record her second shutout of the season for USC. Simonton is now 5-0-1 overall with a 0.60 goals-against-average for the Women of Troy.
The Women of Troy are 9-0 all-time against the Ducks.
USC will host Oregon State in Pac-10 action on Sunday (Oct. 10) at 1 p.m. at McAlister Field.
