OSU Falls to third-ranked California, 2-0
Oct. 10, 2004
Corvallis, Ore. - - Oregon State fell to third-ranked California 2-0 in Pacific-10 men's soccer Sunday afternoon at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium. Three ejections late in the game sealed the fate for the Beavers as they drop to 5-7-1 overall and 0-3-0 in Pac-10 play. California rebounds from a recent loss to improve their record to 8-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 Pac-10 play.
Scoring opportunities were close the whole game with California leading slightly in shots 12-9 and in corner kicks 6-5. The disparity in fouls remained the key to the game where OSU led California 30-9. Three ejections limited OSU to just eight players in the latter stages of the game.
'Silly red cards just destroyed any momentum' OSU head coach Dana Taylor said.
OSU was outplayed at the beginning of the game when California midfielder Yohei Fukuda scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute off of a combo assist from both Calen Carr and Nick Hatzke.'We made a lot of silly mistakes,' Taylor said. 'The first 15 minutes of the game we just didn't come out ready to play.'
California solidified the victory in the 72nd minute when Calen Carr scored off an assist from Troy Roberts.
OSU next plays Washington on Oct. 17 up in Seattle at 1 p.m.
