Trojans Fall In Opener of Championship Main Draw

CHATANOOGA, Tenn. - USC men's tennis suffered two opening-round losses at the 2004 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships on Thursday, Oct. 7, in Chatanooga, Tenn. Senior Johan Berg and sophomore Jamil Al-Agba both dropped their first round matches of the singles main draw.

Berg, ranked 39th in the ITA preseason poll, fell to Luigi D'Agord of Alabama, 6-2, 6-3. Al-Agba, ranked 41st in the preseason polls, dropped a three-set decision, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, to TCU's Fabrizio Sestini. Al-Agba played one consolation round match and fell to New Mexico's David Kowalski.

With over 350 competitors, this is the largest single tournament in collegiate tennis and features the nation's top collegiate players. It is the first of three national championship events during the 2004-05 season at the NCAA Division I level. The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the season, and is followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
