Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep With 3-0 Win Over Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Arizona State freshman middle blocker Colette Meek recorded 11 kills and nine blocks to lead the Sun Devils to a three-game sweep of the Oregon State Beavers Saturday night in Pac-10 volleyball action at Gill Coliseum. The 30-22, 31-29, 30-27 victory over the Beavers gave the Sun Devils a weekend sweep of the Oregon school.
With the victory, ASU evens its season record at 7-7 overall and improves to 2-4 in Pac-10 play. Oregon State drops to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. ASU has now won four of the last five matches against the Beavers to improve to 27-11 in the all-time series.
Meek (Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada) finished with 11 kills on a .435 hitting percentage and tied a season-high with nine blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Morton (Bonsall, Calif.) led the Devils with 13 kills and junior outside hitter Sarah Watkins (Mishawka, Ind.) added 10 kills and two service aces. Freshman setter Rachel Mittelstaedt (Phoenix, Ariz.) led all players with 37 assist and also contributed four digs and six blocks. Freshman libero Sydney Donahue (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished with a match-high 16 digs.
ASU hit a season-high .306 in the match, including only one error while hitting .395 in the opening frame. The .306 team hitting percentage is tied for the highest during a Pac-10 match during the Brad Saindon era. ASU also out-blocked Oregon State 12.5 to 2.0.
Abby Windell led Oregon State with 14 kills on a .571 attack percentage. Outside hitter Allison Lawrence, who is ranked in the top 10 in the Pac-10 in kills per game, was limited to only eight kills on a -.030 hitting percentage.
The Sun Devils return home next weekend to host No. 1 Washington (Oct. 15, 7 p.m.) and Washington State (Oct. 16, 7 p.m.) at Wells Fargo Arena.
