California Competes in Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships

Los Angeles, CA - The California women's tennis team fell short in qualifying for the 2004 Riviera/ITA Women's All American Championships. The Golden Bear's recorded one first round win.

No. 30 in the nation and No. 3 seed in the tournament, sophomore Sasha Podkolzina was upset in the first round of qualifying by Clemson's Romy Farrah in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Podkolzina and freshman doubles partner Suzi Babos had a little more luck in doubles action, with a qualifying first round upset of Denver's third seeded Yanick Dullens and Suzanna Maksovic, 8-3. Podkolzina and Babos fell in the second round of qualifying to Florida's Whitney Benik and Lolita Frangulyan, 8-1. The Florida pair went on to win the main draw doubles championship.

The Bears compete in the St. Mary's Invitational, this Friday through Sunday, in Moraga.
