No. 13 Cal Volleyball Defeats Oregon, 3-1

BERKELEY, CA - Senior middle hitter Camille Leffall tied a career-high with 15 kills as the No. 13-ranked Golden Bears (9-6, 4-2) topped Oregon (9-7, 1-5) 26-30, 30-23, 30-17, 30-23, Friday night at Haas Pavilion. It was Cal's 11th straight victory versus the Ducks, but it was not easy for the Bears as they had to come back from a 30-26 defeat in game one.
Leffall, who sang the national anthem before the match, led Cal with 15 kills and hit .444 for the match (15k, 3e, 27att). Other top performers for the Bears included freshman Angie Pressey with 14 kills and 10 digs, senior Gabrielle Abernathy with 13 kills and junior Jenna Brown with 11 kills, 17 digs and five block assists. Junior Alicia Powers chipped in eight block assists, sophomore setter Samantha Carter had 51 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore libero Jillian Davis had a team-high 20 digs.
Junior Kelly Russell led Oregon with 18 kills and Justine Petry recorded eight block assists.
Despite Leffall recording five kills in game one, the Ducks out hit the Bears, .231-109, and broke away from a 22-22 tie. Cal was able to regain momentum in game two as the Bears recorded 15 kills to Oregon's eight. Cal dominated game three, hitting .341 (21k, 7e, 41att), and jumped out to a 20-12 lead in game four before winning, 30-23.
The Bears will next host Oregon State, Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.
