Oct. 18, 2004

RENO, Nev.- -

Sophomore Ryan Gilmour is tied for first place Monday with a 5-under 139 after two rounds of the Wolf Pack Classic at the par-72 Wolf Run Golf Club. The Beavers are in second place with one round to play at 5-under 571.

Gilmour followed his opening-round 70 with a solid 69 in the afternoon round that saw cold temperatures and gusting winds as the day went on.

'Gilmour played solidly today,' said OSU head coach Brian Watts. 'He really came through for us, especially in that afternoon round.'

Just three strokes behind Gilmour is teammate Brad Simpson, who fired a 2-under 142 and is currently tied for tenth. Simpson's 68 in the afternoon was the lowest individual score in the second round.

Oregon State trails only Lamar by seven strokes going into the final round Tuesday. Host Nevada is in third place, just three strokes behind the Beavers.

Tied with Gilmour for first are Denver's Charlie Soule and Lamar's Dawie VanDerWalt.

Freshman Vincent Johnson and sophomore Mitch Gillis both posted totals of 146 and are tied for 25th, and sophomore Jonathan Green rounds out the Beavers' lineup in a tie for 68th.

'I'm proud of the guys and the way they played today,' added Watts, 'especially when the weather got bad.

'We're in contention to win another tournament and are confident for tomorrow.'

The final round begins Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
