Golden Bears Wrap-Up Play at St. Mary's Invitational

Moraga, CA - The California women's tennis team wrapped up play at the St. Mary's Invitational in Moraga on Sunday. Golden Bear freshman Hillary Englert advanced to the finals of the Singles Flight B Consolation bracket before action was called off due to rain.
Englert, who had a bye in the first round of the main draw Flight B singles bracket, was defeated by UC Davis' Audrey Wingo, 7-5; 6-3. Englert went on to win three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket before play was called. Englert defeated Saint Mary's Dunya Stankovic, 6-4; 6-1, outlasted Joanna Laranjinha of USF, 3-6; 6-0; 1-0 (10-5) and beat University of Nevada's Bach Lan Pham in straight sets, 6-3; 6-1.
Junior Brooke Borisoff lost a tight match in the Round of 32 to Saint Mary's Aude Lambert, 6-7 (3); 6-2; 7-5. Borisoff was knocked out of the Flight A Consolation bracket by Sacramento State's Cristina Rivieccio in three sets, 2-6; 6-4, 6-4.
Cal freshman Tiffany Lee lost to University of the Pacific's Natalia Kostenko in the Round of 32 in Flight A singles, 6-3; 6-1. Lee came up short in the consolation bracket to USF's Pichaya Laosrichon, 6-3; 6-3. Lee lost a very competitive match to Saint Mary's Aude Lambert in the Singles Consolation Round Robin, 6-4; 5-7; 1-0 (10-6).
In doubles action, the Cal duo of Borisoff and Lee advanced to the quarterfinals of Flight A, blanking Nevada's Pham and Miriam Bouchlaka, 8-0. The University of the Pacific's Katharina Hall and Vana Mrazovic got the better of the Cal tandem in the quarters, 8-3.
The Bears next appear at the ITA Regional Qualifiers, Oct. 22-24 at Stanford University.
