Oct. 17, 2004

Midland, Texas - UCLA senior men's tennis player Luben Pampoulov won five matches over the weekend to capture the singles title at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. Bruin sophomore Benjamin Kohlloeffel won the consolation singles title.

Pampoulov, seeded first in the 32-player singles draw, defeated Roger Gusber of Texas, 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday's final. It marked the second year in a row that UCLA had a player in the final, as Kris Kwinta lost to Baylor's Matija Zgaga, 7-5, 6-2 in last year's championship match.

Kohlloeffel, seeded No. 2 and playing his first tournament for UCLA after sitting out last season, won his first-round match over Duke's Peter Shultz, 6-3, 6-2. He lost in the second round to Texas Tech's Bojan Szumanski, 6-2, 6-4, however rebounded to win the back draw with a 6-2, 7-6(3) decision over Callum Beale of Texas.

UCLA will be in action again this Wednesday, as the Bruins head to Malibu, Calif. for the ITA Regionals, Oct. 20-24.
