Washington's Christal Morrison Named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week
Oct. 18, 2004
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington outside hitter Christal Morrison has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 11-17.
Morrison, a freshman from Puyallup, Wash., led the Huskies to wins at Arizona State and No. 22 Arizona. With an injury sidelining senior outside hitter Sanja Tomasevic, the seventh-most prolific offensive player in Washington history with 1,176 career kills, Morrison assumed a lead role in the Washington offense, collecting 38 kills on 86 attempts over the weekend. She also contributed 27 digs.
Against the Sun Devils, Morrison tallied 18 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season. The 15 digs fell one shy of her career-best. Morrison followed that up against the Wildcats with another double-double (her fourth) on a career-best-tying 20 kills and 12 digs. She also tied her career best for aces with two.
The top-ranked Huskies host No. 13 California and No. 11 Stanford this weekend.
This is the first weekly honor for Morrison, and Washington's 14th Player of the Week all-time.
