Volleyball Sweeps Beavers, 3-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Keao Burdine, Bibiana Candelas and Sarah Florian each collected 13 kills to lead the sixth-ranked USC women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-17, 30-24, 30-24) victory over Oregon State at Gill Coliseum on Thursday night. The Beavers are the first unranked team the Women of Troy have faced in their last five matches.
With the victory, the Trojans improve to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the Pac-10, while OSU falls to 8-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
USC got past Oregon State with ease in games one and three by posting nearly identical stats. The Women of Troy tallied a .400 attack percentage in the opener thanks to 18 kills off of 35 attacks and only four errors. In the final game, USC collected 20 kills off of 39 attacks with four errors for a .410 attack percentage. Meanwhile, the Beavers were held to a.025 and .158 performance, respectively.
Game two was the closest outing of the night as OSU hung on for most of the set. The Beavers matched the Women of Troy point-for-point at the start thanks to an improved defensive effort. Despite keeping USC at a .264 hitting mark for the game, Oregon State was unable to produce any offense of its own. The Beavers posted a .191 attack percentage in the 30-24 loss.
Burdine led the match with 17 total points and four blocks, marking the first time this season she has led in the category.
Four players hit above .300 on the night, including Candelas (.500), Emily Adams (.471), Burdine (.367) and Florian (.333). Libero Debora Seilhamer guided the team with 16 digs and Florian added 10 for her fourth-straight double-double.
The Women of Troy complete their road trip at Oregon on Friday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m.
