UCLA Swimming Defeats Oregon State and UCSB in First Meet

Cyndi Gallagher's UCLA Bruins swimming team opened up the season with two victories, defeating Oregon State 149-18 and UCSB 156-98. UCLA improves their overall record to 21-0 against the Gauchose and 4-0 against the Beavers. The Bruins are now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Pac-10 and gave Gallagher her 102nd win at UCLA.
Leading the way for the Bruins were junior Kim Vandenberg, sophomore Jane Imagane, and freshman Chiemi Yamamoto. Vandenberg was a triple event winner in the 200 Free (1:50.29), 50 Free (24.01) and 100 Fly (55.09). Imagane was a double event winner in the 1000 Free (9:59.21) and 500 Free (4:51.08). Yamamoto was also a double event winner, with victories in the 200 Breast (2:19.49) and 400 IM (4:23.81).
Other individual event winners were sophomore Katie Arnold (100 Back, 57.17), freshman Nicolette Teo (100 Breast, 1:04.27), and Courtney Iversen (200 Back, 2:03.80), The Bruin 200 Medley Relay team of Katie Arnold, Nicolette Teo, Kim Vandenberg, and Kellin Chatfield won in a time of 1:45.10.
The Bruin swimmers will head to West Lafayette, IN November 5-6 for the Purdue Invitational, while the divers head across town to USC for the Trojan Invitational on November 7.
