Barnes and Burdette Claim Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Doubles Championship

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford's top-seeded duo of junior Alice Barnes and senior Erin Burdette claimed the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Doubles Championship this morning at the Taube Tennis Stadium. The pair defeated teammates Whitney Deason and Leila Hodzic in the semifinals, 8-1, before knocking off Fresno State's Courtney Jantz and Lucia Sainz in the finals, 9-7.

In singles action, top-seeded Barnes defeated third-seeded Dea Sumantri of Washington (6-1, 6-0) to advance to the finals against Cal's Suzi Babos. The two will face off on Thursday at 1 p.m., for the ITA Northwest Regional Singles Championship at the Taube Tennis Stadium. Babos upset Stanford's fourth-seeded Burdette (6-2, 6-2) in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.

As singles finalists, Barnes and Babos have qualified for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan, Nov. 4-7. As the doubles champions, Barnes and Burdette also earn a spot in Ann Arbor.
