Oct. 25, 2004

TEMPE, Ariz. ( -- The Arizona State baseball team's class of newcomers for the 2005 season has been ranked as the No. 2 class in Baseball America's annual Dandy Dozen recruiting rankings.

The Sun Devil recruiting class consists of 15 newcomers, including 12 freshmen, two junior college transfers and one senior transfer. Texas earned the top billing in the annual survey, while TCU (No. 3), Tulane (No. 4) and Georgia Tech (No. 5) rounded out the top five.

'This class is full of character and has a tremendous amount of talent,' said 10th year assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Jay J. Sferra. 'I am confident a lot of the guys will make an immediate impact, but two or three years down the road I think you will see just how good this class is when most or all of them have contributed to this program in one way or another.'

The class includes several marquee freshmen, including Sferra's son, outfielder J.J. Sferra (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS), shortstop Andrew Romine (Lake Forest, Calif./Trabuco Hills HS), infielder Vinny Biancamano (Glendale, Ariz./Cactus HS), two-way player Seth Garrison (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS), LHP Josh Satow (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS), infielder Willy Fox (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain), infielder Eric Sogard (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird HS), infielder Greg Bordes (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson HS), LHP Keith Christensen (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian HS), catcher Austin Stockfisch (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain), outfielder DJ Butler (Benicia, Calif./Benicia HS) and LHP Drew Bowman (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge HS).

ASU has been listed in Baseball America's Dandy Dozen listing of recruiting classes in each of the last five years.
