Behind The Scenes With ... Associate Director of Football Operations Keith Buckley

Associate Director of Football Operations Keith Buckley

Go behind the scenes and learn how the Athletic Department staff prepares for the 2004 football season. Each week, Cardinal Commitment will feature a different member of the staff that will discus his/her role with the Stanford Football program. Keith Buckley (Associate Director of Football Operations) is this week's guest.

CC: What are you doing on a daily basis to prepare for the upcoming football game?

KB: Every day the administrative staff aims to ease the workload of the coaching staff, thus allowing them to concentrate on the game itself. Each week presents a new set of operational challenges, but the bottom line is whatever needs to be accomplished to better serve the student-athletes will get done.

CC: What is your most important job on game day?

KB: Administratively, game day is the finished product of our week's work so on game day all the work is performed by our coaches and players. I am in constant contact with our medical and equipment staff during the course of the game, and relaying any pertinent information to the coaching staff.

CC: If you could tell the average fan one thing about Stanford Football that they may not know, what would that be?

KB: Fans matter - many think they are just spectators at Stanford Stadium, but our players truly feed off the energy from the stands and along 'The Walk'. A ticket buyer's support does not go unnoticed by our players or staff.

CC: What is your most memorable Stanford Football experience?

KB: T.J. Rushing's 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown - it was an eleven-man effort that completely changed the BYU game and gave our team the confidence to compete in close games.

CC: What is your Stanford Football goal? What do you want to achieve this season?

KB: We have a great senior class both on and off the field, and my goal is to do anything I can to assist them in their goals. I would love to see the seniors finish their careers with a bowl game victory and be the starting point for a long streak of bowl appearances by Stanford Football.

CC: What does 'Cardinal Commitment' mean to you?

KB: 'Cardinal Commitment' is the bond that connects our players, coaches and staff with those that believe in the football program. It is the entire community (fans, family, friends, alumni, faculty, etc) coming together on Saturday with our team to defeat an opponent and represent Stanford University.
