Day Four Results from the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships

BERKELEY - Day Four play has come to a close in Berkeley, wrapping up a very successful run for the California men at the Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 4-7 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan.
In doubles play, the second seeded duo of Patrick Briaud and Conor Niland defeated Oregon's Thomas Bieri and Marcus Schiller in the semifinals, 8-4. The Cal team met up with the No. 1 seeded Stanford tandem of K.C. Corkery and Sam Warburg in the finals, but came up short, losing 8-2.
In singles, junior Lennart Maack, the No. 5 seed, upset Stanford's No. 3 Corkery in the quarterfinals, 6-1; 6-0. Sophomore Daniel Sebescen fell to second seed Sven Swinnen of Oregon, 6-3; 6-0. In the semifinals, Lennart was edged out by Swinnen after a lengthy battle, losing in three sets, 1-6; 6-3; 6-3.
In addition to host California, this event will feature the top players from Division I schools from: Sacramento State, University of Nevada, University of Portland, UC Davis, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Gonzaga, University of San Francisco, University of the Pacific, Cal Poly, Fresno State, St. Mary's, Santa Clara and University of Hawaii.
The singles final will be held tomorrow, either at 9 a.m. at Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Cetner, or, in case of rain, at the San Francisco Tennis Center at 9:30 a.m.
