THIS WEEK: The Oregon State women's golf team heads to Kapolei, Haw., Oct. 26-27 for the Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Course. The best four of five scores will count toward team totals each round. The first two rounds will be played Tuesday and the final 18 holes on Wednesday. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. both days.

THE COURSE: Kapolei Golf Course hosts the tournament. It carries a par of 72 and will play to 6,139 yards.

COMPLETE FIELD: Oregon State will be joined by fellow Pac-10 members Arizona State, Oregon, and UCLA, as well as Boise State, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Denver, Fresno State, Hawai'i (host), Indiana, Oklahoma, Santa Clara, Southern Illinois, and UC-Irvine.

OSU LINEUP: The Beavers will field one team for this event. This team consists of Leah Whiting (jr./Hilo, Haw.), Julie Uhrik (fr./Modesto, Calif.), Jill Ferrante (so./Battle Ground, Wash.), Lindsay Eide (so./Bend, Ore.), and Alex Lucio (sr./Bogota, Colombia).

LAST YEAR: Oklahoma took the team title at last year's event with a three-round total of 889. Washington's Paige MacKenzie was the individual champion with a 2-under 214. Oregon State finished seventh.


Leah Whiting (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) (76.17/72/6 rds.) Leah opened the season at the Mercedes-Benz Fall Preview and tied for 35th, which included an even-par second round, to lead the team. She leads the team in stroke average and has the low round for the season thusfar.

Julie Uhrik (Fr., Modesto, Calif.) (77.78/74/9 rds.) Julie most recently tied for 54th at the Stanford Invitational... posted a 12-over 225 in her very first collegiate tournament at the Mercedes-Benz Invitational to begin the season. In high school, she lettered and was the MVP for her golf team all four years.

Jill Ferrante (So., Battle Ground, Wash.) (78.83/75/6 rds.) Jill's most recent action was at the Stanford Invitational where she tied for 61st with a 229.

Lindsay Eide (So., Bend, Ore.) (80.0/75/9 rds.) Lindsay tied for 40th at last year's Kent Youel with a 230.

Alex Lucio (Sr., Bogota, Colombia) (78.33/74/3 rds.) Alex played in nine tournaments last year, including the Stanford Invitational, where she posted a 236. She most recently played in the Fall Preview and fired a 74 in the first round.

Jessi Gebhardt (Fr., Bellingham, Wash.) (83.33/80/6 rds.) Jessi saw her first collegiate action at the Mercedes Benz Fall Preview and most recently tied for 58th at the Ihlanfeldt Invitational. She was captain of her three-time state champion high school team in 2004 and placed second at the 2004 state championships.

Kelly Kerkvliet (Sr., Corvallis, Ore.) (86.67/84/3 rds.) Kelly played in the Ihlanfeldt Invitational this month after participating in just one tournament last season.

THE COACHES: The Oregon State women's golf program is in its 15th year under the guidance of coach Risë (pronounced Reesa) Lakowske. In those 15 years, the program has been a consistent postseason contender with 10 team and individual appearances at the NCAA Regional Championships and two at the NCAA Championships.

Lakowske competed at OSU from 1973-77, playing in four AIAW National Championships, winning two collegiate events and several non-collegiate tournaments during her career. Most notably as an amateur competitor she was a semifinalist in the 1973 Western Junior Championship and also a semifinalist in the 1976 U.S. Women's Amateur, earning her a three-year exemption from U.S. Open qualifiers.

Kathleen Takaishi officially became Oregon State University's assistant women's golf coach on Feb. 23, 2004, returning to her alma mater after serving as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at the University of California-Riverside for the last 1 1/2 years.

The former OSU All-American played professionally on the Futures Tour for three years after finishing her OSU career.
