Huskies' Tina Frimpong Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Oct. 26, 2004
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON senior forward Tina Frimpong has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 19-25, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Frimpong, from Vancouver, Wash., scored a goal and assisted on both game-winning tallies last weekend, leading seventh-ranked Washington to a two-game sweep in the state of Oregon. On Oct. 22, Frimpong set up Nikki Gamble's golden goal three minutes into the second overtime of a 3-2 win at Oregon State. Frimpong distributed an assist on Kim Taylor's game-winning goal in the 4-1 victory at Oregon on Oct. 24. She scored UW's third goal against the Ducks, increasing her school-record career goal total to 36. Frimpong became the Huskies' all-time leader in career points Oct. 24 as her goal and assist pushed her total to 83. The previous school record of 80 points was compiled by Theresa Wagner from 1997-2000. The 2003 Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year, Frimpong leads UW and is tied for third in the Pac-10 with nine goals this season. She is tied for team-high honors with 21 total points, which ties for third in the Pac-10.
The Huskies (12-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 Pac-10) will take on in-state rival Washington State on Friday starting at 2 p.m.
This is Frimpong's third Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Washington's 15th weekly honor all-time.
