Bruins Prepare to Defend Title at The Prestige at PGA West

The UCLA men's golf team will travel to the desert this week to defend its title in The Prestige at PGA West, hosted by UC Davis at the Greg Norman Course.

The 16-team field includes Stanford, Notre Dame, Pepperdine, Oklahoma and Yale. Thirty-six holes will be played on Mon., Nov. 1 with the final 18 to be played on Nov. 2. The Greg Norman Course will play to a par of 72 over 7,156 yards.

The Bruins will field a team of one senior, three sophomores and two freshmen. One player will compete as an individual.

Senior John Poucher leads the team in scoring at 72.1 strokes per round, followed by sophomore Peter Campbell at 72.2. Campbell won the first event of the season, the Gold Rush Collegiate Showcase, and tied for fourth at the Pac-10/Big-10 Challenge on Oct. 26. He has won two collegiate titles.

Poucher boasts three Top 20 finishes in his three appearances this season. Last season he won the Fall Preview.

Also expected to contend is sophomore Chris Heintz, who tied for ninth at this tournament last season. Classmate Joakim Resntrom, who is averaging 73.3 strokes per round, will make his fourth appearance of the season.

The two freshmen competitors will be Daniel Im and Kevin Chappell. Chappell tied for eighth at the Gold Rush and Im's best finish was a tie for 28th at the Pac-10/Big-10 Challenge.
