Oct. 31, 2004
Stanford, Calif. - Oregon State lost to 17th ranked Stanford 1-0 in their Pacific-10 women's soccer matchup on Sunday at Maloney Field. The loss brings the Beavers to 8-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Pac-10, while Stanford is 12-4-2 on the year and 4-2-1 in conference.
'We put on a tremendous performance against Stanford,' Oregon State head coach Steve Fennah said. 'Stanford is obviously one of the most talented teams in the country. We had opportunities early on in the game, we had some good chances to score, I am proud of the way the kids played today.'
The loan goal of the game was scored in the 27th minute by Stanford's Leah Tapscott off an assist from Emilee Shim.
Oregon State goalkeeper Melissa Onstad was able to hold off Stanford, out saving Cardinals goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart 3-0 during the second half. Despite OSU keeping Stanford at bay, the Beavers were unable to score the game tying win.
The Beavers conclude their Pac-10 season at home next weekend, taking on Arizona on Friday at noon and Arizona State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
'We just have to get keyed up and ready for Friday,' Fennah said. 'We are finishing up our Pac-10 season at home and we will have to get ourselves prepared for that.'
