Angie Pressey Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

Nov. 1, 2004

WALNUT CREEK, CA - California freshman outside hitter Angie Pressey has been selected Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 25-31, conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. It is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Pressey and the 20th Player of the Week honor for Cal Volleyball all-time.

A 5-8 outside hitter from Heathrow, Fla., Pressey recorded 25 kills, 13 digs and two block solos in leading the then-No. 13-ranked Golden Bears to a 3-2 victory over the No. 11-ranked Stanford Cardinal Oct. 31. She recorded six of her career-high 25 kills in the deciding fifth game. Cal upended the Cardinal for the second year in-a-row - the first time the Bears had accomplished that feat since defeating Stanford during the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

For the match, Pressey averaged 5.00 kills and 2.60 digs per game, while hitting .327 (25k, 8e, 52att). Cal has defeated Stanford in two of the past four matches since breaking a streak of 34 straight Cardinal wins last season.

The Bears will next host No. 4-ranked and two-time defending national champion USC, Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Earlier this season, Cal upended the Trojans, 3-0, in Los Angeles, Oct. 9. The Bears will then host No. 16 UCLA, Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Cal has never defeated the Bruins in women's volleyball (0-46).
