California's Angie Pressey Named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week

Nov. 1, 2004

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - California Outside Hitter Angie Pressey has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 25-31.

Pressey, a freshman from Heathrow, Fla., recorded 25 kills and 13 digs in leading the Golden Bears to a 3-2 victory over the No. 11 Stanford Cardinal. She recorded six of her career-high 25 kills in the deciding fifth game. Thanks to Pressey's effort, California secured a victory over Stanford for the second year in a row - the first time they have accomplished that feat since defeating the Cardinal in the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

For the match, Pressey averaged 5.00 kills, 2.60 digs, and 0.60 blocks per game, while hitting at a .327 clip. The Golden Bears have defeated the Cardinal in two of the past four matches since breaking a streak of 34 straight Cardinal wins last season.

California hosts USC and UCLA this weekend. The match against the Trojans will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net on a taped-delayed basis on Sat., Nov. 6.

This is the first weekly honor for Pressey, and California's 20th Player of the Week honor all-time.
