Sam Warburg Advances at the ITA National Indoor Championships

Ann Arbor, Mich. - Senior Sam Warburg advanced to the second round of the ITA National Indoor Championships with a straight set victory over Indiana's Jakub Praibis on Thursday afternoon. Warburg also teamed with junior KC Corkery to post a first round win the doubles tournament. Corkery fell in first round singles action and will compete in the consolation bracket on Friday.

The No. 2 seed, Warburg moved on to the second round with the 6-4, 6-4 win over Praibis, and will face Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech on Friday afternoon. Szumanski advanced to the second round with a 6-0, 7-6 win over Michigan's Michael Rubin. Corkery fell to Duke's Ludovic Walter in a hard fought first round match 7-6, 7-6. The junior will face Georgia's John Isner in consolation round action on Friday.

Corkery and Warburg, the No. 2 seeded doubles tandem, handed Colorado's Marcos Digliodo and Chad Tsuda an 8-3 defeat in first round play. The pair will face the duo of GD Jones and Ryler DeHeart of Illinois in quarterfinal action at 8:30 am on Friday. The Illinois tandem picked up a 9-7 win over Arizona's Roger Matalonga and Colin O'Grady to advance to the second round.

The 2004 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournaments for Division I men and women, will be hosted by Michigan at its Varsity Tennis Center for the second straight year. The event features a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: champions from Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country during the past two weeks, the ITA National Small College champions, the champions of the Icy Hot/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships and at-large and wild card selections made last week by the ITA National Tournament Committee. Overall, more than 7,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships.
