Barnes and Burdette Advance to Semifinals

Ann Arbor, Mich. - Cardinal doubles pair Erin Burdette and Alice Barnes defeated third-seeded Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes of Florida, 9-8 (4) in the quarterfinals of the 2004 ITA National Indoor Championships this afternoon. The pair will face the second seed from Notre Dame, Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson, in the semifinals tomorrow at the UM Varsity Tennis Center.
Barnes also competed in singles earlier today, posting a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Wake Forest's Karin Coetzee in the consolation Round of 16. Burdette fell out of the singles main draw today, dropping a 7-6 (5), 6-3 match to second-seeded Cristelle Grier of Northwestern.
Barnes and Burdette will be on the courts at 10 a.m. tomorrow for the doubles semifinals. Barnes will then play Lindsey Nelson of Southern California in the consolation quarterfinals (Nelson was knocked out of the main draw by Burdette yesterday, 6-1, 6-4).
