Men's Basketball Smashes Occidental In Exhibition Opener

Los Angeles - Sophomore guard Lodrick Stewart scored a game-high 22 points and chipped in 5 steals to lead the Trojan basketball team to a 90-52 drubbing of Occidental in USC's exhibition opener Friday night at the Lyon Center.
Three other Trojans scored in double figures, including senior center Rory O'Neil (15 points), senior guard Errick Craven (14 points) and freshman guard Gabriel Pruitt (10 points) as USC built a 52-19 halftime lead and never looked back.
'I was pleased with our effort,' said Trojan coach Henry Bibby. 'For the first game, I thought we did pretty good. We have good chemistry and a good combination of players out there.'
USC shot 51.6% from the floor compared to Occidental's 27.1%. The Trojans made 19-of-26 free throws (73.1%).
Pruitt added 5 assists and 5 steals to go with his 10 points. He led a solid effort by USC's highly-touted freshman class as forward Nick Young had 8 points and 4 rebounds and Emanuel Willis added 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Ivan Kostic led Occidental with 22 points, while Zach Phillips added 7 rebounds.
The Trojans wrap up exhibition play next Friday (Nov. 12) with a game against The Masters College at 7 p.m. at the Lyon Center.
USC opens its regular season on Nov. 22 against UC Irvine at the Sports Arena.
