Volleyball Swept By No. 22 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Oregon State's volleyball team had its winning streak snapped on Friday night, when the Beavers dropped a 30-18, 30-20, 30-17 match to No. 22 ranked University of Arizona.

Oregon State falls to 10-12 overall and 4-9 in the Pacific-10 Conference, while the Wildcats improve to 15-8 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

'When I scouted the Oregon State-Washington match, they [Oregon State] looked phenomenal,' Arizona head coach David Rubio said. 'From our end, we played one of our best matches overall.'

In game one, Arizona quickly built a six-point lead, but Oregon State used a 4-0 run to make it a 12-11 game, forcing a Wildcat timeout. Arizona rattled off six straight points after the break and went on to win by a 30-18 margin.

Oregon State stayed close in game two until the midway point, when after a 14-14 tie Arizona used a 9-0 run to take a 23-14 lead. The Wildcats went on to win 30-20.

The Beavers were unable to overcome the Arizona block in the third game and sporadic hitting held OSU short by a 30-17 score.

Oregon State hit just .107 for the match compared to Arizona's .393 mark.

Senior outside hitter Allison Lawrence finished with a team-best eight kills, while Abby Windell added seven kills and a .350 hitting percentage for the Beavers.

Jolene Killough had 16 kills and Kim Glass added 16 kills and 12 digs to lead Arizona.

Oregon State heads back to Corvallis to face No. 11 ranked University of California on Thursday at 7 p.m.
