Cross Country Heads to Fresno for NCAA West Regionals

Eric Peterson's women and men's cross country teams will head to Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 13 for the NCAA West Regional Championships. Seven men and seven women will compete on Saturday. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, which are being held Monday, Nov. 22 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. Thirteen teams will be given at-large bids and four individuals not on an already qualified team will automatically qualify for NCAA's.
At Pac-10's, the men placed fifth overall (118 points), as senior Jon Rankin led the Bruins with All-Conference honors after a fifth place finish (24:31, 8K). This was the highest finish for the men's team since 1997, when the Bruins placed fourth, behind Mebrahtom Keflezighi's second-place individual finish. Three other runners placed in the top-28 - senior Erik Emilsson (20th, 25:04), sophomore Austin Ramos (21st, 25:06) and senior Ben Aragon (28th, 25:19).
Heading to Fresno this weekend are - seniors Rankin, Aragon and Emilsson, sophomore Austin Ramos, and freshmen Mike Haddan and Kyle Shackleton. The final spot will be decided between sophomore Micky Cobrin and junior Nick De Felice.
Last season, the men's team placed seventh, and Erik Emilsson was given an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, where he finished 98th overall (30:52.7).
