Washington Postgame Quotes
VS Vanguard (November 8, 2004)
Head Coach June Daugherty
General Comments: 'We showed a lot of improvement for an exhibition game. I thought our intensity definitely stepped it up a level, especially on the defensive end. I liked to see us getting into our running game early. I think we were able to do that a lot because of our dedication to defense. I liked the balance we saw tonight with scoring. Everyone played a lot harder than the first outing and if we can get that balance going, I think we're going to be a dangerous team. I saw some good adjustments at halftime. I wasn't too pleased with our post up game. We asked them to get the ball inside and be a little more patient and I saw a good response from that. The other thing, we did an especially good job with offensive rebounding in the second half, that was a big concern at halftime.'
On everyone scoring: 'I think we have an enormous amount of offense on this team. A good amount of athletes that are willing to share the basketball. We were really hot from three, but you can't rely on that, so we told them to work the inside/out and I thought they responded really well.'
On different starting lineup from last game: 'To be honest with you, you could start eight different lineups with this group and that is a good thing. This team is going to have to play hard with good chemistry and do whatever it takes to get it done. I think more important is who's out there when it has to get done. I can't tell you for sure, but it's going to come down to who's getting it done in practice and the chemistry. We have the luxury to do some mixing and matching this year. We're just concerned about getting out there and playing hard together.'
On adjustments before next game: 'I'd like to get to the line more. I think with the athleticism we have here, we have the opportunity to get to the line more than we did. It was good to see us in the second half settle down and get it inside. I thought we should have used more post up offense early. Tested their waters to speak inside and then if we didn't have anything, kick it back out. We have some room to improve on, but I'm really pleased with our transition defense and our transition offense. I think we can be a lot quicker than what we're doing and we're on our way.'
Guard Cheri Craddock
On her nickname: 'Machine Gun. I don't really remember, I think it might have been Andrea (Lalum) who started it. All of a sudden I saw it in the paper, but I didn't mind and people started putting things in my locker.'
On team comfort level: 'Yeah, we feel a little bit more comfortable because we had eight girls who hadn't played D-I basketball last year. It'll take a little while, but we're learning to find each other and where we're going to be on the court.'
Guard Dominique Banks
On getting back on the court: 'Getting back on the court has been real nice, especially with the girls that we have here. They make me feel a lot better, especially with the chemistry we have on the court.'
