ASU Women's Golf Wins First Match, Leads Second at Match Play Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The third-seeded Arizona State women's golf team defeated Texas A&M 2-1-2 in the first round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship, being held Nov. 14-16.

Junior Alissa Kuczka and senior Erin Tone each won their matches against the Aggies, while freshman Brooke Todare and sophomore Tiffany Tavee halved their matches. Freshman Louise Stahle was defeated 4 and 2 by Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll.

The Sun Devils were also leading Wake Forest three matches to two in the second round before play was suspended due to darkness after 5:15 p.m. Eastern.

Top-seeded and No. 1 ranked Duke downed UNLV, 4-1, in first round while second-seeded Oklahoma State beat North Carolina 3-1-1. Third-seeded Arizona State survived the closest match of the day, 2-1-2. Washington advanced with a victory against Purdue, 3-1-1.

UCLA, Tennessee and New Mexico - the fifth, sixth and seventh seeds were all upset. Arizona topped Pac-10 rival UCLA, 4-1, while Wake Forest and Florida won by scores of 3-2 against Tennessee and New Mexico, respectively. Furman claimed the final match of the first round, 4-1, over Texas.

The second round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship was suspended due to darkness. The second round will continue at 8 a.m. Eastern Time with the third round beginning an hour after the completion of the second round. Live scoring for the tournament can be found at
