Huskies Upset By Oregon State In Regular Season Finale

Nov. 14, 2004

CORVALLIS, ORE. - Led by a hat trick from Robbie Findley, the Oregon State Beavers pulled a 3-2 overtime upset over ninth-ranked Washington in the Pac-10 men's soccer regular season finale at Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore., Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kevin Forrest and senior C.J. Klaas scored goals for the Huskies, but it wasn't enough to overcome the scoring outburst from Findley.

Washington's (11-6-2, 4-3-1 Pac-10) post-season fate will be determined Monday, Nov. 15, when the NCAA Bracket is announced between 1 and 2 p.m. on ESPNews. UW is looking for its ninth NCAA appearance in the last 10 years.

Oregon State (8-10-1, 2-6-0 Pac-10) had not won a conference match until last week, pulling a 1-0 upset over No. 2 UCLA, Nov. 7, before upending the Huskies.

Both teams played through a scoreless first half. Forrest put the Huskies on the board first with a goal assisted by sophomore defender Will Flanagan in the 53rd minute. The Beavers came right back as Findley scored off a throw-in play from Evan McNeley at 56:02. Findley struck again in the 73rd minute on a header off a cross from Brett Gardner.

Washington found the equalizer on Klaas' fifth goal of the season, an unassisted effort in the 84th minute. The score stood at 2-2 at the end of regulation, until almost four minutes into the first overtime period Findley netted the golden goal to complete his hat trick and give the Beavers the win.

Washington junior goalkeeper Chris Eylander made four saves. The three goals allowed were a season-high. OSU goalkeeper Matt Fitchett made six saves. UW outshot OSU 18-13, led by a team-high six shots from Forrest.

The Huskies have lost their last three matches with OSU in Corvallis, and failed to record the season-sweep over the Beavers after a 2-0 victory in Seattle, Oct. 17.
