UW Golfers Advance at Match Play Championships

Howie-in-the-Hills, FL - The fourth-seeded Washington women's golf team defeated Purdue 3-1-1 in the opening round of play at the Collegiate Match Play Championships at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. Due to rain in the area, Washington's second-round match with Arizona will not be completed until Monday. The teams were event at 2-1-2 when play was suspended.

Washington's Sung Ea Lee defeated Purdue's Myrte Eikeneer 3 and 2 while Husky Kim Shin defeated the Boilermakers' Onnarin Sattayabanphot 4 and 3. Paige Mackenzie picked up the UW's third win in the opening round by defeating Purdue's Whitney Frykman 2 up. Washington's Amber Prange halved her opening match with Purdue's Maria Stinson. The Boilermakers Caroline Haase picked up Purdue's only victory by defeating UW's Ashley Bickerton 4 and 3
