Taylor Up For National Women's Soccer Honor

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State forward Jodie Taylor has been named one of 12 finalists for the 2004 Natinal Freshman of the Year honor awarded by Soccer Buzz, a website that focuses on women's collegiate soccer. The winners of Freshman of the Year s and Player of the Year honors will be announced in December after a vote open to every Division I women's soccer coaching staff and the Soccer Buzz staff.

Taylor (Wallasey, Merseyside, England/Oldershaw HS) was the Pacific-10 regular-season leader in both goals (15) and points (32). She scored a goal in 12 of OSU's 20 games this season; had two-goal games against North Carolina-Greensboro, Virginia Commonwealth and Washington; and also had assists against Richmond and Oregon.

Taylor scored on nearly one-quarter of her 64 shots this season, and over half of her shots were on goal (33). She tallied six game-winning goals as the Beavers went 10-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the Pac-10; it was the Beavers' first winning season since 2001 and their best Pac-10 record since the conference expanded to a full 10 teams in 1997.

The other finalists are Notre Dame forward Amanda Cinalli, Ohio State midfielder Lara Dickenmann, North Carolina forward Jaime Gilbert, Northwestern forward Kelsey Hans, Texas midfielder Kaitlin Kennedy, Princeton midfielder Diana Matheson, Boston College forward Kia McNeill, Texas A&M forward Ashlee Pistorius, Penn State defender Denay Riley, Arizona goalkeeper McCall Smith and Virginia Tech forward Ashley Stinson.
